I grew up understanding what it meant to be a boy playing video games, talking to strangers, and getting in trouble with my brothers Eric and Malachi. To me, boyhood was fun and lighthearted and made me feel like a team, a squad.
The narrative around boys growing up is harsh these days, and not for no reason, but supporting boys growing up in a way that encourages them to play and be nice and embrace boyhood as something innocent and sweet is the only way forward.
I feel lucky to have had these 2 boys who made girlhood and boyhood feel like the same thing. Where childhood was about Kirby and dress up and filming youtube videos.
